Key Poland in negotiations
It turns out that in the last simple negotiation Poland can change its priorities for enlargement. According to the diary of the Legal Gazette, Warsaw would have a key function in enabling Ukraine to join the European Union.
The paper notes that a fewer days before the Monday talks between the Prime Ministers and the Presidents of the associate States on the casting of key positions in the EU, there is simply a change in accents, and that Poland may have a little exposed but crucial function in supervising the EU enlargement process.
It is stressed that the head of Polish diplomacy has a restrained speech about his own ambitions, although his appointment as Commissioner is treated as a certainty. However, it is possible that Radosław Sikorski will stay in Warsaw if Donald Tusk tries more to grow the EU than to defend himself.
Commissioner very important
The "Journal of Laws" points out that the function of the Commissioner for Enlargement of the European Union is crucial in defining conditions for cooperation, including trade, with candidate countries and in verifying the fulfilment of the requirements of the European Commission and the associate States.
The paper stresses that this portfolio may have a possible of large importance, as confirmed by supporters of its application, including Piotr Serafin, acting as a permanent typical of Poland to the EU. Seraphin is well-acquainted with the conditions for action in Brussels and is recognised by many EU diplomats.
At the same time, the diary notes that the enlargement portfolio in the EU usually involves political anonymity, and the only chance that the Commissioner for Enlargement can gain global importance is for the fresh countries to join the EU. Hence, it is doubtful whether Radosław Sikorski would be curious in specified a function, and if Poland were to embrace it, 1 of the possible candidates, as it appears from unofficial sources, is Piotr Serafin.
Some media mention to the appointment of Sikorski as “a contingency plan”.
