Parliament on entering defence expenditure in the Constitution

The draft revision of the constitution was submitted by president Andrzej Duda in March. "It is simply a warrant that specified expenses will be implemented and strengthened for our safety," said the president after gathering with the talker of the Sejm. The proposal provides for the addition in Article 219, concerning the state budget, of a paragraph according to which the budget law is utilized annually to finance the defence needs of the Republic of Poland for expenditure of no little than 4 percent of the gross home product. The provision is to be first applied in the budget for 2026.
