China's export hit cars

According to the Chinese Association of car Manufacturers (chin. 中国汽车工业协会) export of Chinese cars in January this year increased by 47.4% year-on-year (r/r). 443,000 cars were exported during this period.

Most of them were vehicles with combustion engines (343 thousand, 57.1% increase y/y). 100,000 NEV cars were exported, an increase of 21.7% y/y.

The first 3 largest exporters are:

  • Chery (chin. 奇瑞汽车),
  • ChangAn (chin. 长安汽车) and
  • BYD (chin. 比亚迪汽车).

Tesla was 5th in January – 31,566 electrical cars were exported from China.

In 2023 China exported 5.221 million vehicles, an increase of 57.2% year-on-year. Among them, 1.727 million NEVs (New Energy Vehicles) were exported, which in turn means an increase of 61.5% y/y. China has thus become a global leader in car exports. For the first time in past they overtake Japan in this category.

The biggest recipients of Chinese cars in the past year were:

  • Russia,
  • Mexico,
  • Thailand,
  • Belgium and
  • Great Britain.

It is worth noting that the production and export of electrical cars were recognised as 1 of China's economical priorities for the year 2024. specified declarations were made by Prime Minister Li Qiang during the inaugural speech gathering of the Chinese Parliament on 5 March.
