One of the main topics of the conversation was the request for further support of Ukraine, which is approaching another dense winter since the Russian invasion began in February 2022. Rutte stressed that NATO should go beyond the function of passive observer and support Ukraine in a more active way. He pointed out that the aim of the Alliance should be to change the course of war, which involves the request to mobilise larger military and logistical resources. The Secretary-General besides added that support for Ukraine is crucial in the face of possible political changes in the United States that could affect the country's abroad policy.
