Russia resembles the russian Union from the 1980s. Putin wants to change the Minister of Defense

The Federation Council adopted the candidatures proposed by Russian president Vladimir Putin as heads of respective ministries and national departments – informed the channel of the Federation Council.

Dmitry Pieskov, Kremlin spokesman, commented on the change at the head of Russia's Defence Ministry. He stated that the decision made sense due to the current situation of the country, which he compared to the USSR period in the mid-1980s. Russia's defence spending of 7.4% of GDP due to the war over 2 years requires adaptation and integration into the country's economy. Putin so decided that the head of the Ministry of Defence should be the economist.

Many-year advisor to Putin

Andrei Bielousov has so far been the first deputy prime minister in the erstwhile government under the leadership of Mikhail Miszustin, and besides served as Prime Minister. He held the position of Putin's economical advisor for many years.

Belousov's candidacy must be approved by the advanced Chamber of the Russian Parliament, the Federation Council. This will take place on 13 and 14 May. It is worth adding that the planned changes in government are straight linked to Vladimir Putin's fresh swearing-in for the 5th time. On May 10, Putin appointed Mikhail Miszustin as Prime Minister.

Government changes

On Sunday, it was announced that Putin besides made proposals for another positions in the government, but Sergei Szojgu is the only minister on that list to be replaced. The Shojgu, considered to be 1 of Putin's closest associates, will take over as Secretary of the safety Council after leaving his position as Minister of Defence, replacing Nikolai Patrushev.

According to Reuters, the change at the top of the Russian Ministry of Defence suggests that Putin plans to increase further the resources allocated to the conflict with Ukraine and usage the Russian economy to a greater degree for war purposes. This is simply a consequence to the Western attempts to bring Russia to the economical crisis by imposing sanctions.
