Euro MP PiS Michał Dworczyk warned on platform X about a paper circulating in the network, which is expected to be a decision to halt the search and exhumation of victims of UPA genocide in Puźniki. Ukrainian Minister of Culture Mikołaj Toczycki confirmed that he had not signed specified a document.

Exhumations in Puźniki are a continuation of the work carried out by the Freedom and Democracy Foundation from May to August 2023, completed with the discovery of a grave in which the remains of the victims of the crime rest. In January 2025, on the basis of the results of the search, the Ukrainian authorities authorised the exhumation of the found remains. The work was carried out from 23 April to 10 May 2025. As stressed by Vice president of the Freedom and Democracy Foundation Maciej Dancevicz, the foundation intends to apply for approval to search the second bottom.
Puźniki is simply a erstwhile village in today's Tarnopolski region in the west of Ukraine, where Ukrainian nationalists murdered – according to various sources – 50 to 120 Poles on the night of 12 to 13 February 1945. On 24 April, exhumations began there – the first specified works since the Ukrainian side abolished in November 2024 the ban on searching and exhuming the remains of Polish victims of wars and conflicts in Ukraine. During the exhumation in Puźniki, remains of at least 42 people were extracted – women, men and children.
The work coordinated by the Foundation “Freedom and Democracy” was attended by experts from the Pomeranian Medical University, the Volynian Antiquity Company and the Institute of National Memory. The work is financed entirely from the budget of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
The case of the Polish genocide in Volyn carried out by UPA for many years has been a hard subject in Polish-Ukrainian relations, especially due to the blocking of the exhumation of Polish victims by the Ukrainian side, as well as the deficiency of explicit condemnation by the state of Ukrainian UPA crimes. However, it is not a secret that this case is besides utilized by the Russian side to make hostile sentiments between Poles and Ukrainians. Everything indicates that the paper presented by Michał Dworczyk is an example of this.
