Both sides have identified a number of problematic issues that have arisen in fresh years between Washington and Beijing. There was besides a proposal to organise a gathering between Xi Jinping and president Joe Biden. In addition, a number of topics have been discussed where both countries have committed themselves to cooperation: the fight against drug trafficking (mainly fentanyl), the fight against threats arising from the uncontrolled improvement of artificial intelligence, or the widespread maintenance of planet peace. In this context, there were issues relating to Ukraine, Taiwan, the mediate East, North Korea or Burma.
