In fresh days, in the context of the war in Ukraine, peace talks have begun between the United States, Russia and Ukraine. A U.S. peculiar Envoy for the mediate East, Steve Witkoff, in an interview with American writer Tucker Carlson, said Washington is geared towards reaching an agreement that Ukraine and Russia can live with.
On Monday, 2 meetings will be held in the capital of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh, the delegation of the USA and Russia, the US and Ukraine. The AFP Agency reported that the Ukrainian delegation would be headed by the Minister of Defence, Rust Umierov.
Witkoff stressed that the US wants Ukraine and Russia to come out of conflict with benefits. "I want Ukraine to get out of this. I want Russia to get out of this. There will be different legislature approvals that we will need. (...) We want everyone to be somewhat satisfied... with an agreement that everyone can live with," Witkoff said.
A typical of the Washington authorities pointed out that there were inactive a fewer details to be discussed during talks on the Russian-Ukrainian ceasefire on energy infrastructure. According to him, according to this agreement, the Russians will attack Ukrainian energy facilities and Ukraine will attack akin targets in Russia. He besides mentioned restoring the moratorium to combat activities in the Black Sea. "This will be implemented within the next week," Witkoff says.
A U.S. peculiar Envoy deemed it essential to hold presidential elections in Ukraine. "There will be elections in Ukraine. I think the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenski, is doing everything in his power,” Witkoff said. To date, the Ukrainian side has consistently held that the organisation of elections under martial law is impossible under the law in force in Ukraine.
Witkoff added that Ukraine cannot join NATO due to the position of Russia and the United States, but the question of the possible granting of a warrant under Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty remains open. "I think Zelenski and his right hand, (head of the law firm of the head of state Andrij) Jermak, fundamentally admitted that (Ukraine) did not intend to be a NATO member," Witkoff said.
At the same time, he informed that various discussions were already in place on whether Ukraine could get protection under Article 5. "Could Ukraine have specified protection from the United States or European countries without being a NATO member? I think this is an open (issue) discussion," said a peculiar U.S. envoy.
Witkoff believes that the biggest problem with the end of Russia's war against Ukraine is Crimea, and “the alleged 4 regions: Donetsk, Lugansk and 2 more (Christian and Zaporosian, formally, contrary to global law, annexed by Russia)” and readiness to recognise them as Russian territory. "There are (there) Russian-speaking (inhabitants). There were (there) referendums in which the vast majority of people showed that they wanted to be under Russia. I think this is simply a key issue of this conflict," said a peculiar U.S. envoy.
According to data, since the start of the war in Ukraine, more than 30,000 people have died and more than 5 million people have had to leave their homes. The war in Ukraine has been 1 of the largest armed conflicts in Europe since planet War II.
