The $248 million contract concerns the acquisition of ready-made W-92S2 diesel engines with a power of 1000 hp, as well as local assembly kits under license. W-92 is an evolution known from the T-34 W-2 engine. It was designed and manufactured by the CzTZ-Uraltrak Czech tractor factory. Interestingly, India is already producing these T-90S Bhishma tank engines today. These wagons are manufactured under Russian licence at the Indian Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (formerly dense Vehicles Factory) plant located in the city of Czennaj, Tamilnadu. So why did India gotta sign a contract to buy engines of this kind in Russia?
