The Russian "peace mission" lost its meaning in September 2023, erstwhile the Azerbaijani offensive took place, after which the Azerbaijani took control of the area of Mountain Karabach. During this offensive, Russian peacekeeping forces behaved passively. As a consequence of Azerbaijan's taking control of the area, a mass exodus of Armenian population from the region began, fearing persecution. This resulted in the failure of Armenian presence in the region and the end of the functioning of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic on 28 September 2023.
