Russia - old equipment and increasing dependence on allies

International sanctions have importantly increased supply costs and put a strain on the Russian economy and despite attempts to circumvent restrictions, they have not been full avoided. The publication gives opinions on the effectiveness of sanctions imposed on Russia by many countries. The analysis of this phenomenon uses both satellite images purchased from Maxar through European Space Imaging (EUSI) and many open sources. peculiar attention has been paid to commercial data on microelectronics flow and weapon systems and platforms, supplemented by expert opinions. Their analysis helped identify Russia's key trading partners and indicate to what degree sanctions limit its defence potential. It follows that although Russia managed to redirect the supply stream of microelectronics from the US and the European Union through Kazakhstan and China, this led to an increase in the cost of materials and components. Thus, it importantly impeded Russia's maintenance of the armed forces at the level expected of the modern military superpower. It was forced to give precedence to the acquisition and repair of armored vehicles and drones, considered crucial in the field of combat, while limiting the operation and modernization of its combat aircraft.
