Soviet land troops relied on divisions. At the end of the USSR there were over 200 of them. Armoured and mechanized divisions were in varying degrees of completion. In full readiness and complete completion there were divisions located abroad, i.e. in GDR, Poland, Czechoslovakia and Hungary. In somewhat lower ones located in the westernmost military districts. The ones in the center, south and east of the USSR were the most crumpled.
