A tunnel that changes the communication map of Poland
The investment is part of the alleged ‘Spry No 9’ – railway line No 85 which to 2032 connect Warsaw and the future CPK Airport with Łódź and then with Wrocław and Poznań. Construction will begin this year.
Maciej Lasek, the government's CPK proxy, emphasises that it is not only an component of the railway network, but besides development impulse for the full region:
“The long-distance tunnel will bring Warsaw closer to Łódź and make unrivalled travel times between the largest centres of Poland”.
Record parameters: The longest and widest tunnel in Poland
The planned tunnel will have:
- 4.6 km long,
- diameter approx. 14 meters,
- two tracks enabling trains to run in both directions at velocity up to 160 km/h.
It'll be the longest and widest single-string railway tunnel in Poland.
Safety and pre-construction preparations
Filip Czernicki, president of the CPK, notes:
“One of our most crucial tasks is to hollow the tunnel while maintaining maximum safety for the inhabitants of Łódź”.
Therefore, before the beginning of the works, a contract was signed with the company Albraco for execution 70 method and building studies in the investment area. Additional geotechnical studies will be carried out by the contractor at the phase of the implementing project.
Łódź – Central Railway Node
High-speed trains will halt at Łódź Fabryczna station, and the tunnel will bring them to the surface close the property Retkinia. From there, the way will lead westwards – towards Sierodwhere the episode to Wrocław will begin.
Preparatory work is presently underway, including:
- strengthening the foundations of the Łódź Cultural House,

The key component of the task is ‘Y Greek’ – KDP line connecting Warsaw and Łódź with fork on Poznań and Wrocław.
