00:00. Zelenski: U.S. donated Ukraine's first draft partnership agreement
Ukraine received its first draft partnership agreement from the United States; everything should be done to sign it as shortly as possible," stated president Volodymyr Zelenski on Wednesday after gathering US Finance Minister Scott Bessent in Kiev.
‘We talked about mineral resources. (...) I know that our squad received the first draft of the applicable paper on partnership between our countries. I very much want our squad to look at this paper carefully. We received it today. (...) We will do everything so that our teams can rapidly scope an agreement and sign (this agreement)” – Zelenski informed.
The U.S. Finance Minister noted that the paper is part of further guarantees for Ukraine from the United States. In his view, this is simply a "important signal to the Russian authorities that we are together" in economical cooperation with Ukraine.
‘We have received an American imagination of stepping up our work, discussed the content of these proposals present and are working for a strong agreement. We hope to make advancement at the Munich safety Conference" wrote Zelenski in Telegram (https://tinyurl.com/5ckm9d64).
The president added that Ukraine appreciates the partnership with the US, is grateful for the country's assistance in defending its independency and seeks to increase common capabilities, especially in the field of security. "You cannot let Moscow and its allies to take control of Ukraine. This means that we request to work together – everyone in the free world" he stressed.
Zelenski, even before Wednesday's telephone conversation with U.S. president Donald Trump, expressed the view that future negotiations with the leader of the United States may concern minerals located in Ukraine's territories occupied by Russia.
‘For me, the details of what will happen to those mineral resources that are in the temporarily occupied territory are important. We haven't talked about this yet, and I think it will be part of (my) forthcoming conversation with Trump" - said Zelenski.
The U.S. president suggested on February 3 that he demands Ukraine to safe access to uncommon earth metals in Ukraine in exchange for further military assistance to Kiev.
The head of the Ukrainian state told Reuter's agency on 7 February that he was prepared to enter into an agreement with the president of the United States, which would include Washington's participation in the exploitation of immense mineral deposits of critical importance in Ukraine, including uncommon earth metals.
The US Finance Minister and the president of Ukraine discussed the importance of financial sanctions against Russia. Zelenski pointed out the request to increase the value of frozen Russian assets to $300 billion. In his opinion, this money should be utilized to rebuild Ukraine and acquisition American weapons.
Bessent noted that this was his first abroad visit to the position of US Finance Minister, and besides assured of his continued support for Ukraine.
Previously, Reutera's agency reported that Bessent arrived in Kiev on Wednesday to discuss the issue of key uncommon earth minerals in Ukraine that could be made available to the United States as compensation for Washington's funds to support Ukraine.
