“Our Niwa” learned about the death of the political prisoner Valentin Sztermer. The information comes from reliable sources, but the circumstances of the tragedy are unknown. The exact date of death is besides unknown – only it is known that it happened in early 2025. At the time of his death, Valentin Sztermer was 61 or 62. He was a Homel citizen. According to Digital Intelligence Team, Valentin was born in the Khmelnick Oblast of Ukraine, in the town of Polonnoje. He moved to Homla no later than 2002. It is known that he has a boy from his first matrimony and a daughter from his second marriage.
Before being imprisoned, Sztermer worked in various places. In 2002-2009 he had the position of an individual entrepreneur, worked as a task and method department manager in a private company, managed a construction company “Awangard Business Resurs”. The last place he worked was a state enterprise.“Krasnye Nails” (Red Carnations), dealing with the improvement and beauty of the Homla area and the Homel region.
Valentin Sztermer was arrested in June 2023. He was accused ofleave 8 comments against Russian aggression in which he allegedly insulted Russian military and instigated hostility towards them. He was besides accused of insulting Lukashenko and of engaging in “extremistic activities”.
As a consequence on October 4, 2023, justice Siarhei Baginski of the Homl territory Court sentenced him to 5 years of colony. About 2 months later, the appeal court confirmedSentence. Sztermermer was included on the list of “extremists” and “terrorists”.
Then Sztermermer was sent to Colony No. 17 in Glass. In the same branch with him was the political prisoner of Dzmitry Luksha, whom Lukashenko pardoned in the summertime of 2024. He told mehe “Our Niwa”, what happened to Sztermer:
“Valentine was very weak. He came to the colony after a stroke. I don't know, possibly it happened in the custody of an investigator where he was detained. He was released from quarantine in this condition. He was thrown in the gap in front of me.
Valentin spoke very slow and walked with difficulty — erstwhile we left work, he always fell behind due to the fact that he did not keep up. Additionally, he slipped and fell in winter. He had a broken or dislocated arm.”
The current head of the colony in Szkłów isAlexander Karnienka. He is simply a erstwhile Mogilevian police officer who for a time was removed from the service, but was then reinstated.
