Chechnya politician since 2007 Ramzan Kadyrov asked Russian president Vladimir Putin to resign. He expressed hope that it would be fulfilled.

Kadyrov's mandate expires in 2026. Elections in 2021, he won officially 99.7% of the vote.

Chechnya's leader stated that only president Putin can release him from his duties. He explained that the fresh individual would have "own initiatives and perceptions". According to independent media data, the real reason for the resignation is simply a deteriorating wellness policy.

This is not the first request for resignation that Kadyrov directed to the president. In 2017, he said he wanted to return to household affairs and solve “certain tasks”in the interests of Russia. He stated that he "sited" in his position and deserved a "termless long leave".

None of the current leaders of the Russian regions hold their position as long as Kadyrov.
