Yuna, experiencing post-traumatic shock, reached The large Cat Sanctuary, located in a quiet village of Smarden, 17 August. According to the authorities, the lioness had previously been held in a tiny space with concrete flooring. She has now begun to show a “fun and interesting nature” as well as “fun” behaviours proving most likely her increasing confidence.
Brain shock and malnutrition
The rescued lioness suffered at least erstwhile a immense shock erstwhile the remains of a rocket fell 300 metres from her tiny runway. The large cat shelter authorities reported that before Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Yuna was held in a private home. erstwhile she visited the shelter, it turned out that she was suffering from severe concussion, post-traumatic shock and malnutrition due to a bad diet.
The shelter workers fishy that there were plans to usage Yuna in illegal breeding.
Now she leaves home for a fewer hours a day, but we're watching her due to the fact that she's inactive very shaky. – said Cam Whitnall of The large Cat Sanctuary.
He added that Yuna, fascinated with various activities, including fighting with plants and bark, and learning about the rain she had never experienced before due to the fact that she had no access to the outer runway.
Not only Yuna
Yuna's rescue is part of the run Big Cats in Crisis organised by The large Cat Sanctuary. It aims to supply permanent refuge for 5 African lions, any of whom are inactive in Ukrainian Wildlife Animal Rescue (WAR). This group consists of 4 lionesses: Yuna, Vanda, Amani and Lira, and 1 male, Rori. All lions are expected to end up in a shelter in Smarden.
Ukrainian WAR led by Natalia Popova and UAnimals provides temporary shelter and treatment for animals. They are rescued from the wariest places in the country. Before the invasion, however, they were held like Yuna in captivity and then abandoned in tight cages erstwhile the war had already begun.
Military personnel frequently ask us to rescue susceptible predators they find – read on the WAR page. – Something goes in our direction, we hear a whistle and think, “This is it.” Then there's an detonation somewhere very close to here, but we're inactive packing the lion in the car..
