"History Detectives" is simply a museum lesson during which students and I discuss propaganda and censorship in the Polish People's Republic. In classes entitled “Oświęcim it was a play” we will talk about lawlessness in post-war Poland.

The Department of Education of our museum tells students a hard postwar past of Poland. utilizing different methods and activities. Students usage both archives and multimedia, receive work cards, work in groups, execute different tasks.

The lesson in our museum is connected with the tour of the erstwhile Mokotov prison.

About censorship and illegality
In the educational offer we have classes that let to get to know Mieczysław Moczarski better, classes that tell about the situation of women who were imprisoned at Rakowiecka Street. Students will learn the character of Łukasz Cieplinski. Together, we survey prison flus he wrote to his wife and son. We survey the mysteries of the work of archaeologists, learn about the past of weapons and uniformation of Polish soldiers.

In April we proposed 2 fresh museum lessons. "History Detectives" are classes where students look at the propaganda mechanisms utilized by the communist authorities after planet War II. Together with the students we survey origin materials – press posters, fragments of literary texts from the times of the Polish People's Republic – to see how the communists discredited those who did not lay down their weapons and fought for free Poland. We have prepared these classes for students of grades 6-8 of primary schools and 1-2 of secondary schools.

“This was an act of lawlessness” is simply a lesson devoted to investigations, trials and a strategy that sought to permanently erase the heroes of the underground of independency from public awareness. Students work in workshop mode, analyse trial files and memory of prisoners. The aim of the class is to learn about the destiny of the unbreakable soldiers and the functioning of the communist system. This lesson is addressed to pupils in grades 8 of primary and secondary schools.

– Museum lessons are conducted in the historical building of the erstwhile Mokotov prison at 37 Rakowiecka Street. Students not only perceive to history, they can contact it," says Magdalena Styk-Krześniak, Head of the Education Department. “We want young people not only to know the facts, but to realize them and to interpret them themselves. Working on sources, discussion is the key to a conscious reception of past – emphasizes the Head of the Education Department.

How to take part in a museum lesson?
Our museum lessons are interdisciplinary and take into account the existing programming basis of specified subjects as history, Polish language or cognition of society. We invitation students from 13 years of age to participate in our lessons.

Classes are free. It takes 90 minutes. They are held from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (last classes begin at 2.30 p.m.). The group can number up to 25 people. Application for museum lessons is accepted by email to: [email protected] .
