"Bear" returns to Savior Square. It'll be financed... by residents

After years of absence, "Tęcz" returns to the Savior Square in Warsaw. LGBT+ bow was selected in this year's Citizens' Budget vote. This is the 4th effort to reconstruct the symbol, which this time has been a success.


On Tuesday, July 1, the results of this year's edition of the Citizens' Budget in Warsaw were presented. Among the winning projects was "LGBT+ Luk". In the vote it was called "New Rainbow".

This initiative, which has been announced by activists for respective years, has received the support of 6811 inhabitants, which will enable it to be implemented from the city budget, i.e. partially from the taxes of the Warsawers.

In the current edition of the Citizens' Budget for 2026, a fresh proposal was submitted under the name "LGBT+ Luk". The task assumes the construction in the form of a broken arch in the mediate of the Savior's Square.

An crucial change is the usage of low flammable materials, which is intended to increase the durability and opposition to vandalism. The bow will be painted in conventional rainbow colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple.

The task besides envisaged extending the symbolism to the full city – in June, or the period of Equality, rainbow flags would appear in all districts of Warsaw, at least 1 for each district. The cost of implementation was estimated at PLN 700,000. He was qualified for the "integration and strengthening of the community" category. Its authors point out that the aim is to prevent discrimination and stigmatisation.

After the first difficulties, in 2022 the task "We Exterminate Warsaw" was allowed to vote. Since then, the number of votes has steadily increased. Despite this, in erstwhile years it has not been possible to rise adequate votes for the task to be carried out.

The communicative of the "Related"


"Bear" is the installation of artist Julia Wójcik. It was first presented in front of the European Parliament building in Brussels, from September to December 2011.

In June 2012, it was moved to the Savior's Square in Warsaw, where it stood on the east part of the island of central square. The installation was a symbol of an open and tolerant city towards all residents.

In the past, "Bear" was destroyed respective times, resulting in multiple reconstructions. In 2015, it was decided to dismantle it permanently.
