Puźniki: Ukraine approves 1945 victim search program

Ukrainian regional authorities approved a 1945 search program for victims of crimes in Puźniki. The next step will be to get the approval of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine to begin the exhumation work. The Volynsky Antiquity Foundation will be the main contractor of the search in cooperation with the Polish organization.

The Tarnopolski Department of Culture of the Circuit Military Administration officially approved the program and calendar plan of the search work in Puźniki. According to PAP Złatohorski, it is now essential to apply for authorisation in the Ministry of Culture and strategical Communication of Ukraine.

The Volynsky Antiquity Foundation, acting as an entity of Ukrainian law, will be the main contractor of planned exploration and exhumation works. In the implementation of this hard task he cooperates with the Polish Freedom and Democracy Foundation.

Consent of the key ministry

The next step, which will let further action in Puźniki, will be the approval of the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture. As the deputy chief of this ministry explained to PAP, Andrij Najos, the work will not be possible to begin without this consent.

Puźniki is simply a erstwhile village in today's Tarnopolskie region in the west of Ukraine. On the night of 12th February 1945, Ukrainian nationalists murdered there according to various sources 50 to 120 Poles.
