Border defender officers stopped 34 foreigners at the border with Lithuania who tried to enter Poland illegally. The largest group, 27 men, was hidden in a semitrailer truck driven by a Romanian citizen. The case shows that the migration force on the east flank is not weakening, and the spread of people has become organized.
Twenty-seven people in 1 trailer
The detention took place at the border with Lithuania. According to the Border Guard, officers controlled a truck driven by a 50-year-old Romanian citizen. There were 27 men in her trailer: 18 Somali citizens, 5 Pakistani citizens, and 4 foreigners. In total, 34 people who attempted to enter Poland illegally were revealed in the same action.
The driver was not an accidental carrier. The function of specified people in the metastasis chain is crucial: they are the ones who carry people across another borders, hoping that regular truck control will not happen. It didn't work this time.
Lithuania as a gateway, Poland as a target
The east Union flank has been facing organised migration force for respective years. any people who go to the Baltic States across the border with Belarus do not stay there. They effort to decision further west, and Poland lies on this route. A truck with an open cargo area is simply a convenient tool for smugglers: it allows to transport respective twelve people at erstwhile and blend into average freight traffic in the Schengen area.
This is simply a phenomenon of secondary movement within the Union. Formally, interior border controls are limited, so the burden of detecting specified transport falls on border services and national police. The Border defender has been reporting further thwarted trials for months, which shows the scale of the operation.
Human transmission is not an offence.
Organizing illegal border crossing in Poland is simply a crime threatened by imprisonment. Trafficking groups treat people like goods, charging advanced amounts for transport and putting them in real danger. The semitrailered men traveled without access to fresh air and without any safety guarantees.
The bill is cold. For organizers, the margin is important, not the destiny of the transported. Therefore, the demolition of the metastatic networks is not only a substance of protecting the border, but besides of pursuing organised crime that preys on the determination of migrants.
Border as a line of sovereignty
Each specified halt is evidence that the east border of Poland remains under pressure, and the tightness of control has a strategical dimension. The effectiveness of the Border defender limits the scale of the problem, but does not remove it: as long as organized grids work, transports will return in subsequent trucks and under subsequent plans.
The question that remains concerns the full Union. How long are the east flanks to halt the movement, whose sources lie far beyond their borders?
