The Pact on Migration and Asylum, voted in the EU Parliament on Wednesday, does not guarantee the safety of applicants for global protection and enables human rights violations, which are most frequently considered irrelevant, secondary in the debate on refugees and migrants.
Are there no human rights on the way? Why is the dehumanisation of these people so far that in the context of the talks on the pact, politicians or the media mainly operate with concepts specified as crisis, safety (Europe)?
"Experts and practitioners on migration, 161 NGOs from Europe (including Doctors Without Borders, Amnesty International, Caritas, Oxfam, Human Rights Watch, Sea Watch, and Poland's Border Group) signed the letter asking members of the European Parliament to abstain from voting.
But it's politics. And political objectives: to meet voters' needs before the European elections in June. Who cares about human rights if it's a non-European man?
