Sudan coup

W Sudan is inactive fighting between General Burhan and General Dagalo. Last week I published respective texts on the situation in Sudan:

  • War of Generals. Who can General Dagalo and Burhan number on for support? Free Thursdays (Q&A). Text only for Patrons with regional alliances arising from the Sudan conflict;
  • Evacuation of Western diplomats from Khartoum. Americans leave Sudan;
  • "The Devil of Darfur". On the genesis of the conflict in Sudan – my text for Virtual Poland.

Israel hesitates to support anyone in Sudan

There has been quite a few talk lately about who supports 2 Sudanese generals fighting each another – Dagalo and Burhan. However, small is said about Israel’s attitude towards this conflict.

Sudan joined the Abraham Agreements formally in 2020 – for which it was deleted from the US list of countries supporting terrorism. However, there is inactive no formal agreement establishing authoritative relations.

Both General Burhan and Dagalo supported normalization with Israel. The outbreak of the battles in Sudan so put the Israelis in a hard situation. At this point, there is no uniform position of Israel, and the Israeli establishment is internally "torrowed". The abroad Ministry is lobbying for General Burhan. On the another hand, Mossad is more inclined to support General Dagalo.
