An act of vandalism aimed at places of Marian worship occurred in Medjugorje. On the figures of Our woman appeared inscriptions and black paint, and 1 of the inscriptions was to be made in Polish. The case is being investigated by Bosnian police. Ton must be calm, but the conclusion is clear: attacks on symbols of religion are not just a prank.
Destroyed figures and police investigation
According to Interia, figures of Our woman were destroyed in Medjugorje. The sculptures featured inscriptions and traces of black paint on the faces and hands. The subtitles were besides to include text in Polish.
Bosnian police are investigating the demolition and fire close St. James Church. At this stage, it must not be determined who is liable for the profanity or what were the exact motives of the perpetrators. However, the facts are serious enough: symbols worshipped by thousands of pilgrims were attacked.
For years, Medjugorje has been a place of intense Marian worship and the goal of pilgrimages. The Vatican in 2024 allowed pilgrimages to be organised, although this did not mean resolving all issues related to revelations.
Faith is not a decoration
To an unbeliever, a figure can only be an object. For a Catholic, it is simply a sign of prayer, memory and relation with God. That's why it hurts. Not due to the fact that stone or plaster has political meaning in itself, but due to the fact that individual hits the space of the sacrum.
In Europe, akin cases are besides frequently attempted to mention to "incident". It's just, individual anointed, individual destroyed, the servants would clean up. This language is convenient due to the fact that it does not make us ask why Christian symbols are so easy the mark of contempt.
It's not about revenge or the search for enemies. It's about simple order. spiritual freedom means that believers can pray without fear, and places of worship are protected not only erstwhile they fit the liberal taste of the elite.
Polish thread and responsibility
Polish inscription on 1 of the banners does not find the nationality of the perpetrator. You should be honest. However, if the Polish way is confirmed, it will be a origin for shame and for clear condemnation. Catholic from Poland should associate in the planet with prayer, pilgrimage and respect, not with profanation.
The case with Medjugorje reminds us that the defence of the Christian tradition begins not with large declarations, but with respect for the signs of faith. You and the police have their jobs. The community of believers has its own: not to let ridicule against the sacrum become the norm.
In view of specified events, seriousness is needed. No hysteria, no sensation, no collective prosecution. But besides without pretending nothing happened. It's done. A sign of religion of millions of people has been destroyed.
