On Monday, there was a recording on the network on which Fico speaks of Slovakia's "moral right" to halt gas supply flowing through its territory to Ukraine. The Prime Minister had previously expressed discontent with president Volodymyr Zelenski, especially after Kiev prevented the transit of Russian gas to respective European countries, including Slovakia, in early January.
According to Fico's fresh statements, Ukraine started receiving gas through Slovakia last week after its energy strategy was severely damaged by Russian attacks. The Prime Minister stressed that the natural material supplied is essential for Ukraine not to freeze, while stressing that Slovakia is not straight active in these deliveries, says ‘European Truth’.
The head of the Slovak government explained that the gas suppliers to Ukraine are abroad companies. At the same time, he stated that his country had a "moral right" to consider steps to halt these supplies. He said that Slovakia now has about 7.5 million cubic metres of gas per day.

A period ago, Fico assessed Zelenski's actions in harsh words. He accused the Ukrainian president of travelling across Europe, asking for financial support in a way that begs and blackmails, which he believes should end. He besides added that he had had adequate of the president of Ukraine. He stressed that Russia had never deceived Slovakia, unlike Kiev. These words were a reaction to Ukraine's decision to halt Russian gas transit.
On 9 January, the Slovak Prime Minister reported that his government was considering taking further retaliatory measures against Ukraine after Kiev withdrew from the agreement with Russian Gazprom. This decision caused problems with gas supply to Slovakia. Earlier, Fico threatened to cut Ukraine off from emergency power supplies and to block humanitarian aid.
