Jacek Jaskowiak participates in the global Forum of Cities and Regions. He says it wasn't peaceful.
As president Jacek Jaskowiak emphasizes, for 3 years Poland and another European countries have supported Ukraine in its defence against Russian aggression. Support at government level is of large importance, but it is equally crucial to cooperate between local governments and draw on the experience of Ukrainian cities in areas specified as civilian defence or the creation of safe shelters for the population.
"A visit to Kiev, where at the invitation of the president of Ukraine I participate in the global Forum of Cities and Regions, was a priceless experience in this respect. quite a few crucial information about what is most crucial in crisis situations, which needs to be secured first erstwhile managing a city affected by war and rocket raids, how to supply access to education and sports activities for children, I obtained from deputy mayor Kiev. The authorities of the capital of Ukraine, with whom we have maintained friendly relations for years, besides enabled me to see shelters organized in schools, cultural institutions or housing blocks. This cognition is highly useful for rational planning of investments in defence and civilian protection in our cities"- writes the president on social media.
"Although all day life in Kiev is going on usually and it is hard to see the manifestations of the ongoing war, Thursday evening and Thursday night on Friday were very restless there. There was a rocket attack on 1 of the residential areas of the city. A large part of the guests of the hotel where I spent the night in the underground shelter. Ukraine's emergency services were moving smoothly. A perfectly organized rocket defence allowed most of the missiles fired at Kiev. Unfortunately, there were no casualties."--she passes.
"Complete of these experiences were talks during the forum with representatives of the Ukrainian government - e.g. Minister of Interior, Minister of Education and Science, but besides with ambassadors of another countries on building shelters or social resilience of citizens"- ends.
