Syria will return to the League of arabian States
All indicates that at the next arabian League (LPA) summit, Syria will be reinstated in the rights of an LPA member.
In the past week, Syrian MFA chief Fajsal Mekdad visited Egypt. This was the first visit of the head of Syrian diplomacy to Cairo in over 10 years.
At the same time, Reuters reported that the head of the Saudi abroad Ministry, Prince Fajsal, who is about to arrive in Damascus, would have an authoritative invitation to president Assad to the top of the League of arabian States, which will be held in May, just in Saudi Arabia. Although the Emirates decided to normalize their relation with Syria as early as 2018, the Sauds had been skeptical about this thought for years – Riyadh's position changed in fact only in fresh months.
It so appears that at the May LPA summit in Saudi Arabia, Syria will be reinstated in the rights of a member.
At the same time, it is worth mentioning that discussions are inactive underway on the normalisation of relations between Syria and Turkey. In April, Moscow, a gathering is to be held between representatives of Iran, Syria, Turkey and Russia. It is said that a preliminary agreement may be reached between Turkey and Syria at this meeting. Personally, I think it is more likely that Syria and Turkey will only normalise relations in May or June – after the presidential elections in Turkey.
