Saudis will allocate $400 million to humanitarian aid for Ukraine

At the end of February Kiev was visited by the head of Saudi diplomacy, Prince Fajsal bin Farhan. It was the first visit of Prince Fajsala to Kiev since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

The prince met with president Zelenski and leading members of his administration, for example Andrij Jermak. The Saudi delegation reported that the Kingdom will supply $400 million in humanitarian aid to Ukraine.

Prince Fajsal's visit to Kiev does not mean a change in Saudi policy towards the war in Ukraine. The Saudis stay neutral and, above all, safe their own interests. Fajsal's visit to Kiev should besides not be considered as a heralding change on the Riyadh-Moskwa line. Especially since little than 2 weeks after his visit to Kiev, Prince Fajsal went to Moscow.

Speaking of Saudi Arabia and diplomacy, it is besides worth mentioning that Prime Minister Morawiecki visited the Kingdom in March and, at least in my opinion, showed a sober assessment of where Riyadh stands in the event of Russia-Ukraine war.
