This historical event then united us beyond political divisions. safety is simply a superior value and as the president of the Republic of Poland I have always emphasized it. Poland was accepted into the North Atlantic Alliance on 12 March 1999. On that day in Independence, United States, abroad Minister Bronisław Geremek handed over the US Secretary of State of Madeleine Albright the North Atlantic Treaty ratification document.
Together with Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary were besides admitted to NATO. 4 days later, on 16 March, a ceremony was held in the NATO office in Brussels for the admission of 3 fresh countries to the North Atlantic Alliance.
