Premiere of the second volume "Orzeł, lion and cross" by Prof. Wojciech Roszkowski
date: December 06, 2023 Editor: Anna

The latest book by Prof. Wojciech Roszkowski, entitled "Orzeł, lion and cross. past and culture of the countries of Trimorz, was published by the White Raven publishing house. It is simply a continuation of the first volume released last year, which describes the past of countries in our region of Europe.
Before the author finished writing the second volume of "History and Culture of the 3 Sea Countries", the situation changed: the initiative was adopted on the rights of a permanent associate of Greece, while Ukraine and Moldova gained the position of associated countries. That must have changed the composition of the book a bit. The first volume was devoted to the past of the countries of Trimorz up to the times of fin de siècle, the second 1 covers the 20th and 21st centuries but Greece, Ukraine and Moldova – absent in the first part of the work by Prof. Wojciech Roszkowski – an outline of their past and culture is thus presented here, from the dawn to the present day.

It can be said that the initiative of the Tri-Sea (Inter-Sea) dates back to its roots in the Jagiellonian era. He tried to return partially to her Prince Adam Jerzy Czartoryski from 1832 to 1861, but under the conditions of captivity there was no chance to implement specified ideas. After Poland regained independency in 1918, Józef Piłsudski preferred the thought of Międzymorz as a counterweight to the constant possessive tendencies of both Russia and rapidly militarizing Germany. However, the nations, which were part of the erstwhile Republic of Lithuania, Belarus, Ukrainians and the Baltic countries (former Inflanty), did not support the covenant. past has shown that this was a large mistake; only the continuation of the alliance gave a force capable of resisting at the same time the imperialism of the east and west. The absence of specified an alliance allowed the Soviets for nearly half a century to annex the countries of the erstwhile Republic and its neighbours south of it. The threats have a bearing on them that they are reborn – the last time proves it.
The thought of the 3 Seas revived in the 3rd Poland under the regulation of the right. The first gathering of the Initiative was held on 29 September 2015 and the first summit of the Heads of the Trimorese associate States took place on 25 August 2016 in Dubrovnik. Since then, cooperation has developed regularly, besides at the level of improvement banks, parliaments, local governments and financial exchanges. However, the threats to the countries of the Mediterranean are expanding and there is surely a request for greater dynamics of cooperation between them. This requires not only political action but besides basic cognition of each another in individual countries. prof. Roszkowski's book is just for expanding this knowledge. It is not only a collection of facts, but besides a journey into past and culture. With 186 suggestive illustrations it is an excellent information compendium for all those who want to research the mysteries of the Trimorese. From the Jagiellonian roots to the present – history, culture and initiative of the Trimorese in a fascinating illustration setting!
