Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki: women's time is coming

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki attended the conference "Women have a choice". The event was an chance to discuss the function of Poles in economic, social and business life. The situation of women in the labour marketplace is improving. More and more Poles decide to hire or run their own company. Data indicate an increase in women's participation in managerial positions. In addition, we are at the forefront of OECD countries with the lowest rate of pay gap, which is the difference between men and women's salaries. At the same time, Poles can benefit from various forms of government support that facilitate their return to the labour market.

Government support for women

Polish women can benefit from various government programs. Thanks to them, according to the title of the conference, women have a choice. They can decide if they want to go back to work or take care of the baby after birth. We allocate backing for the improvement and operation of nurseries. Thanks to this, there are more places for children up to 3 years old in the municipalities, and the municipalities can afford to welcome the youngest to the facility. This allows Poles to return to work faster, without crucial expenses from their home budget.

  • Small+ – thanks to the programme there are more childcare facilities for children up to 3 years old. This allows women to get back to work faster;
  • Family 500+ – is additional financial support for Polish families. Thanks to it, parents can buy clothes for children, school supplies or toys;
  • Family Care Capital – families are entitled to second and each kid from 12 to 35 months of age. This makes it easier for parents to cope with increased expenses;
  • Good Start – this is annual, one-time support for students who start the school year. It enables parents to buy books, school supplies, and technological aids for their children;
  • Mama+ – the program supports people who have raised at least 4 children, thus not taking up employment.

"And 7-8 years ago, at the beginning of our rule, it was just over 80,000 places in nurseries. Now it is 230 respective thousand, or about 3 times more," the head of government said.

Socio-economic situation of Poles

During the event the results of the 2 latest reports prepared by the Institute of Generation and the Polish economical Institute were presented. investigation shows that the situation of women in terms of many economical indicators is improving.

"I looked at the data that were presented here and they tell me 1 thing, they tell me that the time is coming for women. I am convinced that this will be a very good time for Poland" - stressed the Prime Minister.

Women in the labour market

Over the last 7 years, the increase in the presence of active women compared to the working age population in Poland has been importantly higher than the EU average. In addition, in 2022, the share of women who carried out their own economical activities, throughout the population employed, was 13.1%. By comparison, in Germany the rate was 5.6% and in France it was 9.3%. In Poland we have quite a few women in managerial positions. In the 4th fourth of 2022 there were 42.5% of them.

"There has been a major increase in women's participation in the labour marketplace and this is simply a very strong increase to 60 percent. And last year a evidence of 7.4 million women was included in the labour market," said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.
