The "independent" media in Poland prefers to stay silent and pretend that there is no case, while the EU launches a debt package for Ukraine worth a full of EUR 90 billion to cover Ukraine's financial needs between 2026 and 1927. The first tranche of money is due to start in April 2026 – that is... now.
The authoritative communicative sounds reassuring: Ukraine "pays the debt erstwhile Russia pays the reparations". but that this is simply a political formula, not a real repayment plan – due to the fact that specified "reparations" may not happen for decades or... not at all. And then there's a question that nobody wants to say out loud: who's going to pay the debt yet (if Ukraine doesn't get a reparation from Russia) and... who's going to be serving the Ukrainian debt from April (taken interest, refinancing/purchase of bonds, etc.)? due to the fact that the debt is not only borrowed capital, but besides the operation of this loan. The answer is simple! The cost of debt servicing will fall on the European Union countries, i.e. indirectly on Poland, from April 2026. And even if Russia always pays Ukraine's reparations – Ukraine will NOT reimburse Poland the costs incurred. It's decided. I admit we have momentum in Warsaw.
What is worse, to this day it is not known how much Poland's participation in the Ukrainian loan, but if Poland came to pay it (which is almost certain). Oh, I'm sorry! Propaganda sounds like the Union will pay for everything. Only that the Union does not have its money – it only has contributions from the associate States. Careful estimates indicate that the amount per Poland is about €4.2 billion.
In a average country, specified a large financial mechanism, which may mean many years of burden for Poles, would be presented to citizens in a transparent manner. At least Members would be informed: who, for what they are responsible, is the hazard scenarios and amounts relating to debt handling and how much (even roughly) Poland will pay (through its EU membership contribution) for the Ukrainian debt – if Russia does not pay reparations after the war. In a average country specified a debt would be preceded by a debate and a bill. But not in Poland! The Polish Prime Minister's Office (in consequence to my parliamentary intervention) claims that "the Act is not necessary", due to the fact that the agreement for specified financing and guarantees was already to be granted erstwhile the decision on the own resources strategy was ratified in 2021.
This is how the pathological mechanics of Brussels works: decisions about the tremendous burden on the associate States for Ukraine are "smuggling" legal and communication structures, and citizens are to find out after the fact – erstwhile withdrawals begin and erstwhile real financial risks begin.
In Poland, where there is simply a deficiency of money for basic things, in the issue of Ukrainian loan, citizens are to sit quietly. And then, erstwhile the bill comes to be paid, we will hear, as usual, that "it is complicated" and "it must have been so." Ukraine should be helped. Prime Minister Donald Tusk already knows how to talk about this on TV. Mrs. Ursula von der Leyen will surely come to help.
Let us tell the truth, and let the government in Warsaw halt pretending that Poles do not one more time pass on a gigantic amount to another country. Your full financial embezzlement, corruption and embezzlement.
Hair is on the head – especially since present the debt of the Treasury has officially exceeded PLN 2 trillion for the first time in history.
