The Ukrainians must be clearly told: either they will halt discriminating against Polish transport, or we will block your efforts to join the European Union (EU) – warned Marek Sawicki of the Polish People's organization (PSL).
In an interview with Radio Plus, the elder marshal, Marek Sawicki of PSL, expressed his opinion on the protest of Polish carriers on the border with Ukraine. He pointed out that the key challenge for Ukraine is the request to fight corruption in its own territory. Without an effective solution to this problem, the government in Warsaw should not accept the liberalisation of the law, which would be beneficial for Ukrainian carriers.
– It is essential to make it clear to the Ukrainian side – adequate with corruption at the border. If you cannot cope with corruption, the fresh government should not consent to any liberalisation and to any beginning for Ukraine. Aid only in the field of war and supplies, but no another cooperation, due to the fact that Ukraine must realize after 32 years of its statehood that the oil and corruption strategy in Europe and Poland will not be tolerated – Mr Sawicki said.
– It cannot be that any electronic strategy of releasing Polish cars, trucks from Ukraine, in which those who are in corporations pay $200 for the toll, and those who are outside corporations to get without queues, must pay $600 – added erstwhile Minister of Agriculture.
The politician stressed that he would urge the likely future prime minister of the centre-left government, Donald Tusk, to take a decisive stance towards the Ukrainian authorities, including the presentation of the Ukrainian website of the ultimatum: if the electronic strategy is not abolished or corruption at the border is limited, Poland will benefit from the right to block Ukraine's accession to the European Union.
– They will either put up with this strategy – and this must be made clear, I will besides encourage Prime Minister Tusk to do so – or they will make it clear to the Prime Minister of Ukraine and president Zelensk that no more corruption at the border and we have the right to free transport, just as we do. Ukrainians on the Polish side due to the low capacity of border crossings stood for 2 days, and we 12 days on the Ukrainian side. Well, it can't be, it can't be Ukraine's corrupt strategy to block our carriers – stated the erstwhile Minister.
– I believe that here [new power – ed.] should be very harsh and decisive to tell the Ukrainians: either you will halt discriminating against Polish transport, or we will block your membership of the European Union – stressed Marek Sawicki.
Ukrainian media suggests protesters Polish carriers have ties to Russia, and Russian intelligence services may be active in blocking Ukraine’s borders, reports the Ukrainian portal “Guildhall”. In a propaganda tone, the portal accuses 1 of organizers of the protest of carriers, Confederate politicians and the All-Polish Youth of their relation with Russia. These accusations were made by various Ukrainian media.
The Ukrainian side claimed that the blockade prevented trucks from entering Ukraine with humanitarian and military aid. Mer Lwowa, Andry Sadowy, argued that the actions of protesting Polish carriers endanger to support Ukraine in the fight for independency and safety of Europe.
Polish carriers powerfully denied these allegations, stressing that humanitarian vehicles are being passed on. Polish aid organizations besides denied these accusations. Platform X (formerly Twitter) added annotation to Sadowy entries, informing that humanitarian aid is not blocked on the Polish border, but any of it does not scope the army due to corruption in Ukraine.
It should be noted that besides in Polish media there is simply a discredit run of the protest of carriers. any journalists, like their Ukrainian counterparts, attack protest organizers and Confederate politicians who support the strike.
The protest of Polish carriers on the border with Ukraine lasts from 6 November. Representatives of the manufacture block border crossings in Lublin and Podkarpackie voivodships. The action responds to the liberalisation of global transport rules in the European Union. Polish carriers want to focus on the transport situation in Poland and initiate Polish-Ukrainian talks. If an agreement is reached, they shall consider ending border crossing points.
Polish carriers request the restoration of the transport authorisation strategy for Ukrainian carriers and the simplification of their number to pre-Russian invasion of Ukraine, which is up to 200 000 per year. They besides require tightening of the rules for the transport of ECMT, introducing a separate queue in the electronic strategy for transport vehicles registered in the EU and separate for empty trucks (currently they must wait 10-12 days). They besides want to warrant access to the Ukrainian Nobility (Road) system.
