The case of Dariusz Matecki from the Law and Justice Office is gaining momentum. The talker of the Sejm, Simon Holovnia, publically called on the politician to “get out of the forest” and face charges that could lead to the abolition of his immunity and temporary arrest. In the background of the case, there are serious corruption and financial charges which have shaken the Polish political scene.
Minister Bodnar applies to waive immunity
Justice Minister Adam Bodnar reported that an application for the waiver of immunity was sent to the Sejm and that he agreed to detain and temporarily arrest Dariusz Matecki. This proposal is the consequence of an investigation conducted by the National Prosecutor's Office, which concerns the affairs of the Justice Fund and another related cases.
– The application was prepared on the basis of materials collected by the prosecution. It concerns serious allegations that require an immediate response," Bodnar stressed.
Accusations against Matecki: property benefits and apparent contracts
According to the Minister of Justice, Mr Matecki is to hear allegations concerning, among others:
- Property and individual benefits – it is to consult with officials of the Ministry of Justice the terms of the offer of Fidei Defendsor associations and wellness Friends before formally submitting these offers in a competition for grants from the Justice Fund.
- Manipulation of the competition – suspicions concern actions aimed at identifying circumstantial organisations as beneficiaries of grants, contrary to the competition rules.
- Money laundering – the allegations besides include obstruction of the establishment of a criminal origin of funds of no little than PLN 447 500.
- Apparent employment contracts – it is about concluding employment contracts with the State Forest Information Centre and the Regional Directorate of State Forests, which were not actually performed.
Hołównia: "I anticipate the committee to respond quickly"
Speaker of the Sejm Szymon Hołownia informed through the X portal that the motion to waive Matecki's immunity had already been submitted to the Rules of Procedure Committee.
– I anticipate this committee to come to an early conclusion, which will let me to put your immunity to a vote in the next Parliament. Unless you quit your immunity sooner, Holownia wrote.

Matecki: “These are absurd allegations”
In an interview with the portal DoRzeczy.pl, MP Matecki rejected the charges, calling them absurd.
– I anticipate to be arrested at the next session of the Sejm. I'm not going anywhere. They arrest me, they arrest me. They have no real basis for this detention, but present we do not live in a average state. present we live just like in Belarus, like in Russia, where the opposition goes to jail, even though it is innocent, for the activity itself," Matecki said.
The politician besides stressed that 3 months before the presidential run he was deliberately eliminated from the political game, even though he enjoyed any of the highest scope among all politicians in Poland.
What about Matecki's immunity?
The substance of Mr Matecki is very emotional among politicians and the public. The decision of the Rules of Procedure Committee and the possible vote in the Sejm may affect the Member's further political career.
