"Wladimir Putin resigned 70-year-old Gen. Oleg Saliukov, commander of the ground troops, replacing him with 49-year-old Gen. Andrei Mordwiczew, conqueror of Mariupola. The change means a generational rosada in the Russian command – erstwhile generals from russian times leave, and their place is taken by younger, active on the fronts. Mordwiczew, without staff experience, was celebrated for his violent offensive operations in Ukraine. He is appointed as future Chief of General Staff after Gierasimov's departure. Kremlin promotes effective but unscrupulous generals and moral burdens.”
