Polish peculiar troops have been practicing in Germany since 28 August to penetrate 100 km behind the enemy's line and strike the drone into an crucial target. They are the first U.S. ally allowed to enter the fresh Green Berets script. For Poland it is simply a applicable lesson of war in Ukraine and strengthening the ability to deter Russia.
First allies in the fresh scenario
The exercise began on 28 August at the Joint Multinational Reading Center in Hohenfels, Bavaria. According to the Associated Press agency, the script was created only a fewer months ago. Previously it was conducted by 2 teams of American Green Berets. Poles are the first soldiers from the allied NATO state to face this test.
This training is to recreate conditions known from the front in Ukraine. Polish specialists must bypass the U.S. Airborne Unit playing the opponent, cross the closed area of the exercise and then scope Grafenwöhr. In total, they travel about 100 kilometres and are designed to destruct a seemingly crucial mark utilizing a drone. AP describes the full script of the exercise.
Drone watches, a civilian can betray
The training area is about 3,000 square kilometres. The way includes villages, farms, cities and private and public cameras. The residents mostly don't know about the surgery. The study of suspiciously acting persons can so go to the police and then aid the military track down the team.
Americans run their own unmanned reconnaissance. In erstwhile editions, they had over a 100 drones, and after the group was detected, they could direct police officers with dogs or another machines against them. A soldier considered captured or killed is out of the script. It is this force that distinguishes the modern battlefield from the old ideas of the secretive rally of a tiny branch.
Ukraine changed the battlefield bill
Drones hinder hidden movement, detect traces, and let to rapidly set fire. The war in Ukraine has besides shown that the advantage is given by a smooth combination of recognition, communication and precise impact. Americans are trying to recreate these conditions in Europe before soldiers encounter them in real conflict.
Poland must not be limited to buying further arms platforms. He needs people, procedures and his own unmanned production. Russia is investigating the resilience of NATO states today, and uncertainty about the long-term presence of US troops in Europe requires more independency from Warsaw. An alliance is necessary. It would be a mistake to replace your own strength with it.
At stake is the ability to act after detection
The training at Hohenfels does not prejudge the readiness of the full Polish Armed Forces. Instead, it shows the right direction: an exercise against an opponent equipped with mass drone recognition, not according to convenient peacetime schemes. Poland and another NATO countries strengthen the east flank, but strengthening without the ability to identify and destruct within the enemy's group is not enough.
For Poles there is simply a circumstantial stake. The question is whether in the event of Russian aggression our troops will stay free to act under constant reflection and can strike before the opponent does it first. The experience of war in Ukraine must be converted into Polish capabilities, Polish supplies and Polish command systems.
