About 2200 soldiers and 500 vehicles from Finland and Poland take part in the exercises "Northern Strike 25-2" at the Rovajärvi artillery camp. Soldiers of the 1st Mazurian Artillery Brigade for the first time will be able to carry out ground fire tasks utilizing lobster-K. In addition, the launchers were besides transported on board the aircraft for the first time.
The aim of the "Northern Strike 25-2" is to improve the effectiveness of artillery systems in hard conditions of early winter. “We will combine tactical and operational firepower into a functional full and we will practice integrating the possible of our allies with a part of our defence (...) we will besides improve the skills of fire units in exercises with sharp ammunition”, said Colonel Kimmo Ruotsalainen, the leader of the exercises on the maavoimat.fi website, the authoritative portal of Finnish land troops.
Some 2,200 soldiers and 500 vehicles will take part in the exercises. With the Finns, their skills will be checked by soldiers with 1 The Mazury Artillery Brigade. During the past weekend, they began transporting vehicles and systems from Gdynia Airport to Babich Dołach to Finland.
In the first pitch on board the powerful AN-124, Ruslan loaded safety cars including command, ammunition, or Fordy Rangery. – Northern Strike 25-2 is simply a strengthening of global cooperation between the Finnish and Polish armies, exercises include planning, organizing and, above all, carrying out fire tasks – says Colonel Dariusz Kropiewnicki, commander of the 4th MBA rocket division.
He adds that the exercises are primarily meant to show that NATO works together. – present the 4th Squadron is stationed on the Suwałki Pass, and next day is in Finland and performs a fire task. In this way, we show our operating and transport capabilities and that at any minute we can decision and support our allies," said Colonel Kropiewnicki.
The officer notes that since the minimum capacity of the CGR-080 rocket is 30 km, so the lobster-K in Polish conditions performed fire tasks only for purposes at sea. On the another hand, the Rovajärvi artillery ground in Lapland has an area of as much as 1,100 sq mi. km. and thus the 1 MBA artillerymen will have the chance to fire lobsters for land purposes for the first time. Exercises will last until 25 November.
The lobster-K is simply a Polish version of the South Korean multi-guided rocket launcher strategy (WWR) K239 Chunmoo, embedded on Jelcz 882.57 with 8x8. Polish military bought 290 Hanwha Aerospace launcher modules. The last executive agreement was concluded in April 2024 and assumes the transportation of 72 modules of multi-guided rocket launchers along with a logistics and training package.
The WWR strategy may launch respective different guided or unguided missiles which are located in 2 retention tanks. Each 1 shall contain, depending on the ammunition used, six 239 mm guided rockets with a scope of 80 km or 1 600 mm guided tactical rocket which may harm the targets at a distance of up to 290 km.
