The Institute of National Memory reported in the entry on platform X that on Thursday it received confirmation that the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine had granted approval to carry out exhumation works in Ostrówków and Wola Ostrowiecka in the Lubomel territory in Volyn.

It was recalled that in April, the site was studied by IPN specialists in cooperation with the worker of the Medical University of Wrocław, the Ukrainian partner of the institute of the “Volynian Antiquity”, and with the participation of representatives of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. As a result, 2 mass graves and 1 single were found.

"On this basis, in May we requested approval from the Ukrainian authorities to carry out exhumation and exploration work in these 2 no longer existing towns," the IPN said.

As noted, they were inhabited by the Polish population, which on 30 August 1943 was the victim of the pacification action of UPA, resulting in over 1,000 deaths. "Exhumation work was carried out in 1992, 2011 and 2015. The remains of 674 people were found and buried with dignity. The current work aims to find another 350 victims of crimes committed in Poles by Ukrainian nationalists" – the entry has the X platform.
