In order to increase the fleet of diesel trains and its competitiveness in the passenger transport market, Polregio concluded a contract on Friday in Zielona Góra for the acquisition of 15 utilized rail vehicles of this type, said spokesperson Polregio SA Karol Jakubowski.
He added that under option law, the carrier can besides buy 8 specified units. Then all warehouses will be able to transport up to 4,6,000 travellers in total. The value of the full contract is PLN 515 million gross.
The train supplier, coming from Germany and Italy, is Public Transport Service (PTS) Sp. z o.o. from Warsaw. The first of them, after modernization, are to leave for the tracks in late 2027.
The purchased trains are wireless, air-conditioned and tailored to the needs of people with disabilities. Vehicles will besides be equipped with monitoring and places to carry bicycles. These are three-member, low-floor trains produced at the turn of 2000s – TALENT trains (type D644.0) and Pesa Atribo (type ATR220M).
Each train will accommodate at least 200 travellers on board.
