Most Germans believe that Friedrich Merz, leader of the block of the Christian-Democratic and Christian-Social Union (CDU/CSU), who won the parliamentary elections in Germany, is not fit for future Chancellor. That's how the For Institute polledare for NTV and RTL tv stations.
According to the study, 60% of respondents expressed the opinion that Merz was unfit for the post of future German Chancellor, while only 32% were against it. Already in early March, 40% of those surveyed believed that Merz would be a good chancellor.
In East Germany, 63% of respondents stated that Merz was unfit for the position of Chancellor, while only 19% had a disagreement.
In western Germany, 34% of respondents believe that Merz will be a good chancellor, while 59% disagree with this statement.
Only CDU/CSU voters in the February elections (69%) and block supporters (79%) consider Merza to be a suitable candidate for the post of Chancellor, but even among them are those who think Merz will neglect in his function (28% and 18% respectively).
Most supporters of another parties believe that Merz is unfit for this post. Among the supporters of the Social Democratic organization of Germany (SPD) 69% believe that Merz will not win as Chancellor, among the supporters of the Green organization – 71%, among the supporters of the Left – 85%, among the supporters of the alternate to Germany (AfD) – 84%.
The survey was carried out on 4 and 7 April. 1001 people participated. The statistical mistake shall not exceed 3 percent points.
According to the latest survey of the Money Institute, CDU/CSU has 25% of support, an alternate for Germany (AfD) is second with 24%, SPD's in 3rd place with 15%, Greens gain 12% and Left 10%. The remaining parties have support below 5% – the minimum threshold for entry into the national parliament. The survey was conducted from 1 to 7 April. It was attended by 2,501. The statistical mistake shall not exceed 2,5 percent points.
The CDU/CSU and SPD are presently negotiating the creation of a ruling coalition. On February 23, CDU/CSU president and the likely future German Chancellor Friedrich Merz expressed his intention to make a fresh government for Easter, which falls on April 20 this year.
Early parliamentary elections were held in Germany on 23 February. After calculating the votes in all 299 constituency, the winner turned out to be CDU/CSU block, scoring 28.6%. AfD placed second in the election with a evidence score of 20.8%. The 3rd place was taken by the SPD with a consequence of 16.4% of the votes, which is the worst consequence in the past of the party. The Greens (11.6%), the Left organization (8.8%) and the Danish-frisian number party, the confederate Schleswig Electoral Union, besides entered the parliament, which obtained 1 mandate in the single-mandate vote.
