The Paris court ruled a four-year prison conviction on Monday, including 3 in suspension, for the leader of the utmost right-wing Marine Le Pen for embezzlement of public funds. He besides ruled a five-year ban on moving for public office, which will be enforced immediately.
This means that Le Pen will not be able to compete in the 2027 presidential election unless a court of higher instance issued a favorable judgement for her until the presidential election. The proceedings in higher courts are in France from respective months to respective years.
Prior to the judgment, the French media agreed that a fewer years' ban would put Le Pen's chances of participating in the 2027 election.
While the conviction of imprisonment will not be carried out until the courts of the higher courts have exhausted their way, ban on moving for public functions, in practice - ban on participating in elections - is enforced immediately.
The conviction of imprisonment may be carried out in another form, e.g. electronic surveillance.
