Polish farmers ask to ban the import of cucumbers from Russia, which are actively imported into the country — provided the O2 news portal, citing the head of the Association of Tomato Producers and Glass Cucumbers, Luke Gwizdala.

"When they (Russians – ed.) sale their products in Poland, we face unfair competition due to the fact that we have limited access to inexpensive energy," he said.

The whistle was complaining that cucumbers request much energy and heat to grow properly, but due to EU sanctions against Russia, Polish farmers are forced to usage coal, which has become much more costly than before due to the conflict in Ukraine.

"Russians have access to their own energy resources, which means they reduce production costs", he complained.

Poland is the main importer of cucumbers in the European Union. At the same time, Spain (€2.8 million) and Romania (1.5 million) besides recorded large imports from abroad in March. In total, EU countries bought this product early in the spring for €9.1 million, which is 7.5 percent little than imports in February.

Overall, Polish companies imported products worth EUR 3.25 million in March, which is 1.6 times more than in February.
