– The full thought of drones is to defend human life, to remove a soldier as far as possible from the threat, to supply him with the chance to task safely, at hazard for equipment, not for human life.
– This is our incredible achievement, due to the fact that we saved hundreds of thousands of lives through the usage of unmanned equipment – emphasises Remigius Wilk, manager of communication in the WB Group in an interview with Newseria Agency. “Ukraine is simply a immense marketplace with which we exchange experiences and supply our equipment.
Interoperable drones will become a defensive necessity
Unmanned air systems have become 1 of the key elements of the modern battlefield. Their function goes far beyond designation – they presently execute logistical, shock and supporting command functions and, above all, let the soldiers to be removed from the immediate threat. In view of NATO and the EU's multi-domain conflict assumptions, interoperable drones will become a defensive necessity. This poses a number of challenges and opportunities for Polish producers.
The ongoing war in Ukraine proved that drones became an integral part of reconnaissance and impact activities. The conflict behind our east border accelerated the improvement of countermeasures and forced the integration of unmanned workers into air defence systems. The cognition gained in combat conditions is now going to NATO and EU countries, which build drone systems and adapt tactics to work with Ukrainian armed forces.
Since the beginning of 2025, we have started producing an unmanned FlyEye strategy in Ukraine
– In Ukraine, we started as 1 of the first, unless the first western company, we began to supply our equipment to Ukraine at the very beginning of the war, and remember that the war broke out in 2014, not in 2022. Since 2015, our equipment has been utilized there all day, protecting people's lives, says Remigius Wilk. – In Ukraine, in the beginning there was only a service, repair, gathering experience and partially training, although a large part of the training takes place safely in Poland, and now, from the beginning of 2025, we start producing the unmanned FlyEye strategy there.
FlyEye produced by Flytronic (as part of the WB Group) is simply a light speedboat designed for long-term patrolling and reconnaissance. It combines scope and flight time with low detection and the ability to observe, correct fire and retransmission communications, which may be of key importance in the environment with strong radioelectronic interference. The WB Group began its serial production in Ukraine, responding to the increasing request for tactical reconnaissance platforms.
In addition to FlyEye, the WB Group besides provides Ukraine with topaz combat management systems
– It's the most advanced unmanned in its class, produced in thousands of copies. It's an unmanned speedboat that uses the engine only erstwhile it takes off and changes altitude, and it goes flying for the remainder of the time. Thanks to this, it is very hard to detect it, and so to knock it down, even anti-aircraft rocket detonators do not track it," says the WB Group representative.
In addition to FlyEye, the WB Group besides provides Ukraine with Topaz combat management systems, FONET communications solutions and a household of ammunition circulating in Warmate. Together, these products form an integrated ecosystem of tactical support and complement functionally – from recognition, through command, to precise impact.
Simplicity of operation is 1 of the key reasons for the popularity of drones
– Each of our systems is as simple as possible. The alleged user interface is designed to teach the user, most frequently a soldier, to operate specified systems as shortly as possible. In a fewer hours you can learn the basic service of FlyEye, Warmate or another systems," explains Remigius Wilk.
Simplicity is 1 of the key reasons why drones are popular: fast training of operators, including reservists, allows to scale the tactical capabilities of units. Modular construction and fast preparation for the mission are of real importance. For example, FlyEye can be configured to take off and folded after landing in a short time. The start is automatic and the device is released from the operator’s hands.
About half of our gross comes from export
The increasing function of drones is not only a substance of technology, but besides of defence strategy and doctrine. NATO and EU countries presume that future conflicts will be multi-domain and interoperable unmanned systems will become an integral part of the defence. This opens up an chance for Polish defence manufacture to export more.
– The WB Group has been characterized by the fact that about half of our gross comes from exports. We are adapted from the beginning to the fact that we are not competing in Poland, due to the fact that it does not make sense, only around the planet and our products should be in the top position. But, of course, the Polish armed forces will always be our primary recipient,” emphasised the typical of the WB Group. – We want to export these systems as much as possible, due to the fact that it returns us amounts, it gives us more money for our R & D work, which always goes to the Polish Army first.
