On Monday, March 3, United States president Donald Trump announced a halt to military aid to Ukraine. This was not only met with criticism from allies, but besides by many people of culture. Among the critical voices was the respected composer Zbigniew Preisner.
Zbiogniew Preisner wrote to Trump
In the Instagram entry, the Polish artist turned not only to Donald Trump, but besides to all Americans. He recalled the words from the U.S. Constitution “we, the nation”. He recalled that they mean not only democracy and human rights, but besides work for the weaker, suffering, oppressed.
"Your president Donald Trump told president Volodymyr Zelenski that there are no cards, there is nothing," Preisner wrote to the Americans. "Mr President, the president of Ukraine has the cards in his hand. His card is his brave nation," he noted. He mentioned the victims of the “brutal war of Putin” and the destroyed country.
"Do you not know the past of Russia? Do you not know what Stalin’s communism was?” he asked. "We, east Europeans, were sold like others by your president – first in Tehran, then yet in Yalta," he reminded. He pointed out that it was Poland that showed how to "bring the teeth of the bars to the walls" and reminded of the function of Lech Wałęsa in this victory.
Polish composer canceled the performance in Chicago
“Poland is free. east Europe is free. present Ukraine is suffering again. After Stalin came Putin. After those crimes, the present came. Not everything is for sale and surely freedom is not for sale. The victim cannot be compared with the executioner," the composer continued.
“Your decision is that there will be no more military aid. You say, "You will die," he emphasized. He besides called on Europe to awaken and abandon the illusion of civilised Russia Putin. He emphasized that the Kremlin dictator only understands the language of force, so 1 cannot stay indifferent and 1 must defend Ukraine due to the fact that Putin will knock on the next door.
At the end of his news, Zbigniew Preisner apologized to his American fans and reported the cancellation of a previously scheduled performance in Chicago.
