Polish Post loses packages, which is not a surprise. The interest in this problem is so large that it was addressed by the office of the president of the Office for individual Data Protection. In view of the planned simplification in employment, it is surely not to be expected that the situation in this institution will be improved.
President UODO noted shortcomings in the operation of the Polish Post Office. The specified disappearance of parcels would not be so crucial to the Office if not for the fact that broadcasters are frequently registered as data controllers. This means that they are liable for protecting our individual data.
Letters sent by these entities sometimes go to the incorrect address or die under unknown circumstances. These lists may include our individual data, financial information and even the results of medical research. frequently these data are considered "sensitive" in accordance with the GDPR provisions.
President UODO wrote a letter to the president of the Polish Post Office
April 2, 2024 president of UODO sent a letter to the president of the Polish Post Office. He pointed out that many cases of lost or incorrect transportation of the consignment were a serious problem for data guardians and, of course, injured citizens. These entities are obliged to study violations of the GDPR to the supervisory authority. They study them so much that the president of UODO considered it essential to intervene. It is worth noting that this is not the first time.
UODO had already corresponded with the operator in this case between 2019 and 2020. At that time, the Polish Postman undertook to take measures to improve the protection of individual data. Training was to be organised for transportation staff and recommendations that registered message should not be sent to mailboxes and contact points (which, however, inactive happens as I can confirm on my own example). Greater surveillance was to be carried out over the full transportation process.
It seems that small has changed.
President UODO one more time asked for urgent action to improve the quality of Polish Post Office services. In a letter, the president of UODO insists on the operator to find a way to limit incidents leading to individual data protection violations and strengthen cooperation with protected correspondence broadcasters. The Office besides asks whether Poczta Polska monitors the effectiveness of the previously implemented measures.
In connection with the allegations raised, the spokesperson for the Polish Post issued a short commie on this matter, which we attach to the full text below:
The squad of the Data Protection Officer at Poczta Polska, supported by the Company's business units, is in the course of activities related to the subject of the speech of the president of UODO. The company makes efforts to inform UODO about the results of the work within the set deadline.
