The reconstruction of the Tczewski Bridge, 1 of the most valuable engineering monuments in Pomerania, was one more time postponed. In the vote on the state budget for 2025, Members rejected the amendment tabled by Kazimierz Smoliński, which provided for the transfer of PLN 100 million for the renovation of this historical crossing. Tczewski Bridge remains without money.
Tczewski Bridge, frequently called the "Polish Gate of Freedom", is of large historical and cultural importance. Founded in the 19th century, it was 1 of the most modern bridges of its era. present his method condition leaves much to be desired. After many years of neglect, the bridge requires urgent renovation work to reconstruct it to its erstwhile glory and guarantee safety.
Mr Kazimierz Smolinski of Law and Justice emphasized during the debate in the Sejm how crucial it is to rebuild the bridge not only for the local community, but besides for preserving Poland's cultural heritage. His amendment to the budget was to be a step towards securing the financing of this project. Unfortunately, this proposal has not been supported by the majority of Members.
Political controversy around decisions
Members of the Citizens' Coalition and co-chairing the Coalition on December 13 were peculiarly critical. Among them, Agnieszka Pomaska and Magdalena Magoka, who before the elections declared support for rebuilding the bridge. By voting against the amendment, they caused disappointment among the inhabitants of Tczew and the surrounding area. As Mr Smolinski noted in his Facebook entry, this decision runs counter to earlier electoral promises.
Smolinski published a list of the names of the Members who voted against the amendment, which was met with a wide consequence on social media. For many inhabitants of Pomerania, this decision is simply a symbolic rejection of their needs by the rulers.
