Piotr Duda withdraws approval to rent the OSH area to Simon Holownia

The president of the National Commission of the NSZZ “Solidarity”, Piotr Duda, issued a message on controversy surrounding the rent of the historical OSH Hall. As he claims, the rental was to be associated with celebrations of the anniversary of the martial law, but it turned out that the intent of the event might have been different.

Piotr Duda reported that the request to rent the OSH Hall had been received from the Chancellery of the Sejm. The event planned for 7 December was to be a gathering of Marshal Szymon Hołownia with residents of Gdańsk. The president of the "Solidarity" accepted the request, recognising that the OSH, a symbol of the conflict for labour rights and democracy, could service as a place for specified a meeting. The practice of renting this facility for various events, including those organised by public institutions, was applied earlier.

Peter Duda and decision to retreat consent

However, Duda pointed out that he learned from the media that the OSH would be utilized to inaugurate the election pre-campaign of Simon Holowna as a presidential candidate. According to him, that would be contrary to the findings. He stressed that the issue of the incorrect invoice was besides raised, where the Polish 2050 organization was to appear as a payer. The invoice was cancelled and the funds returned, but the situation caused a deep distaste.

In view of the circumstances, Piotr Duda decided to retreat his approval to rent the OSH Hall for December 7. At the same time, he expressed outrage at the actions of Simon Holownia and his party, which he found incompatible with the first intent of the event.
