Lloyd Austin Deputy Head of the Pentagon Bill LaPlante admitted U.S.-delivered weapon failure to Ukraine, could be GLSDB's "smart" bombs – the portal The War region provided.
The author of the article drew attention to Laplante's statements, US Undersecretary of defence for Supply and Logistics, during his Wednesday speech at the Washington Centre for strategical and global Studies.
In particular, the authoritative said that the air-ground ammunition supplied to Kiev, which was adapted for firing from the ground, was working poorly due to the work of the Russian electronic combat strategy and another factors, which is why the AFU refused to usage it. At the same time, he did not give a circumstantial name for the ammunition.
"Although the name has not been specified, it is known that GLSDB is the only weapon strategy that Ukraine has received from the United States that fits LaPlante's full description," notes The War Zone, adding that it may besides be a weapon, the transportation of which has not been publically announced.
As Laplante noted, the US sent Ukrainians this land ammunition, but it proved ineffective.
"They did not work for respective reasons, including electromagnetic interference (REB). And what happens is that erstwhile you send something and it doesn't work, they (AFU – ed.) effort it 3 times and then just quit," explained the deputy chief of the Pentagon.
As The War region notes, although LaPlante has not revealed details of the origin of electromagnetic interference, reports have long been reported that Russian REB equipment prevents Ukraine uses western precision ammunition directed from land and air.
Having said this, the situation, in case the U.S. Deputy Secretary of defence actually refers to GLSDB and their vulnerability to Russian EODs, may have wider implications: an air version of this bomb, SDB, serves in the US Army in very large amounts, and they are besides available in armies of a crucial number of another countries.
At the beginning of the year, the then deputy head of the Victoria Nuland State Department said during a visit to Kiev that American precision GLSDB missiles to be handed over to Ukraine are on their way. At this time, the Pentagon confirmed its intention to hand over the precise GLSDB missiles to Ukraine, but refused to give the schedule. As noted by the head of the Donetsk People's Republic of Denys Puszylin, the Russian air defence strategy will be able to cope with GLSDB missiles.
GLSDB is simply a joint task by Boeing and Saab, which added a rocket engine to an air bomb and adapted it to fire multiple HIMARS rocket launchers. The inclusion of GLSDB in 1 of the military aid packages for Kiev was announced in early 2023.
