In connection with the war in Ukraine that has lasted for almost 3 years, president Volodymyr Zelenski announced that he was ready to sit at the negotiating table with Russian leader Vladimir Putin to end the conflict. This message met with Kremlin's reply, which confirmed that Putin was open to talks with Zelenski.

President Zelenski said, "If people think we gotta go diplomatically, and I think we are ready to go diplomatically, then the United States, Europe, Ukraine and Russia must participate in this". He added that he was ready to sit at the negotiating table with Putin if it was the only way to reconstruct peace to the Ukrainians.

The Kremlin spokesman, Dmitri Pieskov, replied that it was Kiev that should show “openness and interest in specified negotiations”. Psykov said Putin believes the Russian side remains open to negotiations, despite problems with Zelenski's legitimacy.

Russia pushed the communicative that Zelenski exercised his power illegally due to the fact that his word of office ended in 2024. However, Ukrainian law prohibits elections during martial law, and the president of Ukraine announces that elections will take place erstwhile the conflict is over.

According to the independent Russian paper "Kommersant", Pieskov besides confessed that Russia and the United States have late intensified their contacts on Ukraine. U.S. president Donald Trump earlier said that his country has "very constructive talks" with Kiev and Moscow.
