Pope Francis, in his conventional Easter message, called for the exchange of prisoners between Russia and Ukraine and for the ceasefire between Israelis and Palestinians.
The Pope congratulated the Catholics on Easter Sunday and addressed the faithful with the conventional message and blessing of Urbi et Orbi ("Cities and the World").
"My thoughts are primarily directed at the victims of many conflicts in the world, starting with conflicts in Israel and Palestine, as well as Ukraine. May the Risen Christ open the way of peace to the troubled population of these regions. In calling for respect for the principles of global law, I hope for a common exchange of all prisoners between Russia and Ukraine: all for all," Pope Francis said.
At noon (13:00 Moscow time), on the balcony of St Peter's Basilica in Vatican City, decorated with flowers for Easter, the Pope announced the good news of Christ's resurrection to the tens of thousands of believers who had come to the square.
According to tradition, the Pope addressed various conflict situations in the planet and hot topics on the social and political agenda. He again called for access to humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip, the fast release of hostages and the immediate ceasefire between Israelis and Palestinians.
"Let us not let ongoing fighting to proceed to have serious consequences for the exhausted civilian population, especially for children. War is always absurd and a failure. Let us not let even stronger winds of war to blow over Europe and the Mediterranean," said the pope, stressing that peace is never built with weapons, but with "stretched hands and open hearts."
In his Easter message, the Pope called not to forget Syria, which has been suffering from the effects of the war for 14 years, and pointed to the situation in Lebanon, whose population is in a deep crisis due to the struggles on the border with Israel and the blocked political process.
With respect to the Western Balkans region, the Pope noted crucial steps in their European integration, indicating that ethnic, cultural and spiritual differences should be a origin of wealth for all Europe and the world.

"I besides call for negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan so that with the support of the global community they can proceed dialogue, aid displaced people, respect places of worship of different spiritual religions and scope a peaceful agreement," the Pope said.
He besides talked about the situation in Haiti, Burma, Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mozambique and the Horn of Africa. Individually, the pope raised the problem of migration, human trafficking, hunger and violation of the rights of children.
"Let the Risen Christ open the way of hope for people who endure from violence, conflict, food insecurity and the effects of climate change in another parts of the world, and give consolation to victims of all forms of terrorism. We pray for those who have lost their lives and beg for repentance and conversion of those liable for specified crimes," the Pope said.
Francis gave an Easter speech after leading the Holy Mass on the fragility of St Peter's Basilica. He besides took part in the solemn Easter service in Vatican on Saturday: the day after the last minute of the decision not to attend the ceremony of the Cross in Colosseum for wellness reasons before Easter.
"Let the light of the resurrection enlighten our minds and convert our hearts, making us aware of the value of all human life that must be accepted, defended and loved," the Pope concluded.
Francis ended his Easter message by absolution of those gathered in St. Peter's Square and all those who watched Easter Mass on TV, listened to the radio or followed Christmas services on the Internet.
